Polish Comparison: Butter London "Trout Pout" vs. Essie "Cute As a Button"

I haven't done any polish comparisons for quite a while. But I find them quite useful so I'm going to do one today between two colors that I have been rumored to be dupes, Butter London's "Trout Pout" and Essie's "Cute As a Button."

Butter London's "Trout Pout" is a salmon-y pink with coral tones. It has a pure cream finish and requires 3 coats for opacity. I have a complete NOTD along with more photos here.

(Butter London "Trout Pout," 3 coats)

Essie's "Cute As a Button" is also a pinky coral, but unlike "Trout Pout" it doesn't have that salmon-pink look. It's strictly pink and coral, and much more pink in real life than it is depicted in photos (which is probably why so many people think they are dupes). I have a NOTD with more photos for "Cute As a Button" here.

(Essie "Cute As a Button," 3 coats)

And now for the comparison...

As you can see, they are very different. It's difficult to capture both these bright colors perfectly, but when put them side-by-side in the same lighting you can tell they are drastically different. Yes, they are in the same color family of pink-y corals, but they are by no means dupes of one another.

I hope that was helpful to some of you!
If you're a nail addict and love pinky corals, I would just spring for both. If not, opting for Essie may be the wise choice since it's nearly half the price of a Butter London polish.

Do you own either of these polishes? Which do you prefer?

  1. Thanks for the comparison! I have the BL but I've been contemplating getting the Essie. They look different enough to me to have both!
